The 2013 Storm Queen Stakes is set to run at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on April 6, 2013.
Run over a distance of 2,000 metres, the 2013 Group 1 Storm Queen Stakes is open to three-year-old fillies only.
The 2013 Storm Queen Stakes is worth $400,000 in prize money and is run under set weight conditions.
New Zealand filly Habibi will be having her very first Australian start when she run in the race.
The Ekraar filly has won six of her seven race starts and has earned more than $550,000 in prize money during her short horse racing career.
Habibi faced her only defeat when third in the Group 2 Avondale Guineas at Ellerslie in February.
Her most recent result was a win in the Group 1 NZ Derby on March 2, 2013.
Habibi was due to run in the NZ Oaks, however, is now being saved for a run in the 2013 Storm Queen Stakes.
Co-trainer Dean Logan feels that a run in Sydney would make more sense than waiting until the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
“We’re thinking of either Sydney or Brisbane, but we’re leaning towards Sydney as going to Brisbane can make it difficult to have a spring campaign,” said Logan.
Logan feels the biggest competiion could come from likely fellow 2013 Storm Queen Stakes runner Dear Demi.
“Dear Demi looks like a very good filly but the New Zealand form usually measures up, especially the fillies,” he said.
